Catholic vs. catholic

The word “catholic” is both proper and common.

The proper noun “Catholic” refers to a Christian who is a member of the Catholic Church.  “Catholic” in Catholic Church is an adjective.

The common “catholic” means varied, versatile, broad-minded, etc.  For example, He is a man of catholic tastes.  The statement means he is a man of varied tastes, i.e., he likes a lot of things.

“He is catholic in his ways” does not mean he is Christian or that the uppercase Catholic is demoted to lowercase catholic.  The statement simply means he is versatile and has nothing to do with faith or religion.

The common “catholic” is commonly seen in biology/zoology treatises where some animals are described as having catholic ways or catholic eating habits, i.e., these animals are not exclusively herbivorous or carnivorous, etc.

Margot Kidder, Lois Lane

Teri Hatcher (Lois Lane in the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) made anti-Filipino remarks in an episode of Desperate Housewives.  The Senate was up in arms, wanting to legislate the removal of the show from Philippine television.  I made sure not to watch the series again.  I’m not angry anymore, but I haven’t re-visited the show.

Amy Adams had a remarkable guesting in the fantasy TV series Charmed (starring Shannen Doherty).  I wasn’t sure then she’d go far in showbiz (which has consistently relied on luck as much as talent), but here she is now, our current Lois Lane.

I was a boy when I first saw Superman fly on the silver screen.  My hormones would rage for Christopher Reeve later when I became aware of myself, but at the time, I just saw him as the most famous superhero who wore his jockey shorts outside his pants.

My memory emporium, however, took in Margot Kidder as THE Lois Lane.  Years ago, videos of Lois Lane auditions were released.  They were all charming, but it was Margot Kidder who blended very well with Christopher Reeve; their chemistry was a magic potion that contributed to the film’s success.  I may very well be self-justifying.  The fact remains, though, that it is Margot Kidder who nailed the role, and it is she that my memories launch whenever “Superman’s girlfriend” is mentioned – likely until the day I die.

Margot Kidder passed away on 13 May 2018.

Robert the Bruce, Considerable Men, King James, and the Bible

Adult content.  Please enjoy, and please be guided accordingly.

In the film Outlaw King, Chris Pine plays Scottish King Robert the Bruce.  Pine shows his pubic hair in one scene and his non-erect penis in another scene.  Blink and you miss the dick.  The speed with which the dick disappears from the screen makes me wonder if Pine’s equipment is considerable like Justin Bieber’s or Rupert Evans’ or Harris Dickinson’s.  It looks considerable enough, I think.  I’d like to see more, of course, for a better assessment.

Rupert Evans plays a whitelighter a.k.a. angel in the 2018 remake of the TV series Charmed.  He can also be seen in the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle.  His full frontal videos are available in the Net.

Harris Dickinson stars in the teen sci-fi flick The Darkest Minds.  He shows his considerable equipment in the film Beach Rats.

Robert the Bruce’s legacy lives to this day.  Christians are familiar with his descendant King James I of England and Ireland a.k.a. King James VI of Scotland.  James is the son of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Why are Christians familiar with James I?  James sponsored the translation of the Holy Bible into English.  That is why there is the KJV or King James Version of the Bible.

Also, biographers of James believe James to have had dalliances with men.  In short, James I is gay, not totally though, since he had issues (children) and got married to a woman.

The man mostly linked to James I is George Villiers.  In one of James’ royal residences, a secret passage connected his room to Villiers’.

So, the next time you see or hold a KJV Bible, remember James I, remember “gay.”

Hinata

The top three smuggled goods in the world are drugs, weapons, and animals.

Animals rank highly because they are kept as pets, used for business, served as exotic dishes, and administered as potent medicines.  Many of these animals are endangered, while some are simply exotic without threat of extinction.

I keep a number of exotic, not-at-risk pets, the oldest of which is a squirrel.1

Sometimes I feel sad for Hinata, my squirrel.  I occasionally catch her staring at the ceiling, her body curled in the food bowl, her fingers stuck in her mouth, like a human child in fetal position.  Is gallivanting in an expanse of green field included in her ruminations?

Hinata was caught from the wild at a very young age.  She was around 8 weeks old when I acquired her from Arranque over 2 years ago.

I wonder if she was better off with a custodian other than I.  I wonder if she would have survived the wild if no one had caught her.

I expect it is sad to be forcibly removed from one’s residence, but a pet lover’s desire, more often than not, overrides an animal’s desire for freedom; hence, the high rank of animals as smuggled goods.

I document my pets’ life through photos, and it is apparent my Hinata is aging.

Did or does she want to find her soul mate?  Does she want babies of her own?  Does she consider her life with me as single blessedness or singular penance?

I got Hinata a partner before, but the male squirrel met an accident resulting in its early demise.  Was Hinata ever attracted to the male squirrel?  Is she homosexual like me?

How long do tree squirrels live in captivity?  How long do they live in the wild?  Do we have another 2 or more years together?  The Net does not provide enough data regarding local species.2

Looking at Hinata in her moments of melancholy gives me a sense of foreboding.  I have kept and loved rodents for two decades, and experience dictates that rodents do not last very long.  Rodents in my custody rarely reached 2 years.

Hinata is around the size of or is slightly larger than a rat, and larger rodent breeds last a little bit longer than the smaller ones.

While I worry about Hinata’s life span, I find comfort in the fact that I care for my pets like they are my own flesh and blood.

My pets give me happiness the way no human can.  It is simply fitting to give them what I can while they walk on this gracious earth… with me.

Notes

1Internet search in 2009 returned pictures of Samar squirrels resembling Hinata.

This YouTube video  <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36ANWAvrpNg> of the Philippine tree squirrel in the Manila Zoo was published on 13 July 2014 by Junar Nabong.  Compare the squirrel on the video with Hinata in the photos.

2I read somewhere before that squirrels can live for as long as 7 years.  My Hinata lived for at least 9.5 years.  I acquired Hinata on 11 April 2009 when she was around 8 weeks old (that makes February 2009 her birth month).  Hinata died today, 5 November 2018.  Hinata is named after the wife (then admirer) of Naruto, possibly the most famous fictional ninja in the world.

About the photos

The first photo shows Hinata at 1 year of age.

The second photo shows Hinata celebrating her 3 years with me.  I let Hinata roam free now and then (with supervision because she liked to gnaw).  I once saw her gnaw through a half-inch thick wood in seconds.
